Journey to the European Capital of Culture 2025 - Chemnitz
July 4 to 6, 2025
The longer we planned our trip to Chemnitz, the more we fell in love.
With the city’s rich history, its unexpected treasures – and the spectacular program Chemnitz is presenting as the European Capital of Culture 2025.
Here’s a small preview – a selection of the highlights awaiting you on our journey:
A city tour with depth
We’ll explore the heart of Chemnitz on a guided walk: from the former Jewish department store Schocken (now an archaeological museum) to the Theaterplatz with its opera house and art collections, the iconic Karl Marx Monument, and other architectural and cultural gems.
Industry meets modernity
At the Industrial Museum, we’ll dive into the city’s past as a center of machine building and innovation – impressively curated in an equally impressive space.
Architectural gem: Villa Esche
We’ll enjoy a stylish lunch followed by an exclusive tour of Villa Esche, a Jugendstil masterpiece designed by Henry van de Velde.
Art, studios & creative spaces
We’ll visit the Garagencampus, an urban art project developed for Chemnitz 2025, and the Wirkbau, home to contemporary galleries where we’ll meet local creatives and enjoy an aperitif in inspiring company.
Studio visit with a Chemnitz-based artist
A personal highlight: a successful local artist will open her studio for us and share insights into her work and her perspective on Chemnitz as a cultural capital.
Dinner among artworks
We’ll end the day with a special dinner inside e.artis gallery, surrounded by contemporary art and meaningful conversation.
Purple Path – Art in motion
On Sunday, we’ll set out by bus to explore the Purple Path, a sculpture trail connecting Chemnitz with the surrounding region – a key project of the Capital of Culture that blends landscape and contemporary art.
We’ll return home full of impressions, new perspectives – and perhaps just a little in love with Chemnitz.
Please note: This is just a small selection of the full program – Chemnitz is waiting to be discovered with all your senses!
